Reports say Houston believes Graham Mertz tore his ACL, pending confirmation, which should push Davis Mills into more preseason and backup work. Mills started six games in 2025 and posted 915 yards, five touchdowns and one interception, but that production came with negative pass EPA per game and does not make him a likely threat to C.J. Stroud. The opportunity is an expanded role, not a starting job, unless Houston declines to add another quarterback.
